What is refinery aruba?

Refinery Aruba, also known as the Aruban refinery, was a petroleum refinery located in San Nicolas, Aruba. It was owned and operated by the Venezuelan state-owned oil company Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA) until the company's financial troubles led to the refinery being taken over by the government of Aruba in 2018.

The refinery had a capacity of 235,000 barrels per day and processed heavy crude oil from Venezuela into a range of products including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and propane. It was a critical source of revenue for the Aruban economy, contributing an estimated 10% of the country's GDP and providing jobs for thousands of people.

However, the refinery had experienced numerous operational and financial difficulties over the years, including maintenance issues, environmental concerns, and declining market demand for its products. In 2012, it was temporarily shut down and later reopened with new ownership and management.

In early 2020, the Aruban government announced plans to convert the refinery into a facility for the production of green hydrogen and other renewable energy products. The project, which is expected to take several years to complete, aims to reduce the country's dependence on fossil fuels and promote sustainable development.
